Sing for Water North 2013
It has come to that time of year for us to think about Sing For Water North and Secret Singers will definitely participate again this year. I am even going to conduct one of the songs on the day, which will be a thrill!
It is a truly marvellous event of massed choirs from across the North raising money for Water Aid and saving hundreds of lives. Below is the missive from Jules Gibb (one of the main organisers) and includes all the details. Please let me know ASAP if you want to participate. We will be learning all the songs in the classes too.
Sing For Water North 2013
Sing for Water North is a mass sing which supports water and sanitation projects run by the charity WaterAid.
This year, Sing for Water North will be held on Sunday 2nd June as part of the Manchester Day celebrations in City centre Manchester and it is going to be bigger and better than ever before.
The Sing for Water Choir will have its own publicity and advertising and will be billed as launching the Manchester Day Parade entertainment in Albert Square, after the parade. We will have a large stage and the Mayor will make a speech. We will sing our whole repertoire and also have, as guest artists, the Lovenotes, who have performed at the Sing for Water event in London.
Best of all we will have, for the first time, a license to collect!
This has taken some years of proving ourselves and negotiating and eventually we are getting all the support we need from the council to make this a significant annual event.
Now that we have what we need to make the day a success all we have to do is provide singers! Lots of singers!! More than ever before!!!
If you are a Sing for Water North regular, then do all you can to bring your choir along and try and recruit as many new people to the event as possible.
If you are an MD, and are not able to come, then please encourage your singers to come anyway. We promise to look after them!!
If you are an MD and don’t have time to learn the repertoire, then Jules will visit your choir and teach the songs in your usual sessions. Anyone – with or without an MD or choir can come along to our lovely Sing for Water North rehearsal days.
Please – Singers of the North – come together with us and make a great choir that will save hundreds and hundreds of lives.

How to get involved
Contact Olwyn to sign up as a Secret singer participant- the sooner the better and I will take it from there.
Rehearsals (we will be learning the songs in all the Secret singers classes but in addition-)All the songs will be taught at the rehearsals. Attendance at at least one rehearsal is recommended, come to both if you can – they are enormous fun. The rehearsals will be at Bridge 5 Mill, 22a Beswick Street, Ancoats, Manchester, M4 7HR. Details of how to get to the mill can be found on their website at: http://www.merci.org.uk/drupal/visiting
First rehearsal: Sunday, 17th March 2013, from 10.30am to 4pm
Second rehearsal: Sunday, 12th May 2013, from 10.30am to 4pm
As at previous events, rather than asking participants to raise sponsorship, each person taking part will be asked to donate a minimum of £15 to Water Aid via Sing for Water North. This will cover both rehearsals and the day itself. You can of course get sponsorship or raise money through additional events if you wish and donate more! We can also arrange for a speaker from Water Aid to come to speak to your choir if you wish.
£15 has been chosen because it represents the amount that provides sustainable clean water and sanitation for one person.
Details of how to pay will be sent to you once you have registered.
