Well, we did it! We learned all the songs and we participated in a massed sing of over 300 voices! What a great day we had. There was a fantastic atmosphere in the morning workshop inside Manchester town hall and then the sun came out for us to have our lunch in the square – including birthday cake! The weather kept fine throughout the afternoon, although it was a bit windy which spoiled the recording a little. There are recordings on youtube which are great to see to get an idea of this wonderful coming together of ordinary people to make something so special.

Even though the organisers of the Manchester Day Parade prevented us from collecting money on the day we still raised over £5,000 for Water Aid by our contributions and that is enough to provide clean water for life for about 350 people! So well done and we can do more next year too.

I was thinking how great it is that an event like this can change lives through its fundraising, which is really marvellous but we must also consider the smaller changes which occurred for many of the participants. Many people in our group, and probably in others too, had never sung in public before – or even considered that to be a possibility, but they were there and had that experience and I think that is AMAZING!!

Well done all you Secret Singers, and to those of you who weren’t able to come this time – you missed a treat so come next year.
