Sing for Water North 2016

This year’s Sing for Water North has now been launched! Sing for Water is a wonderful massed choir event which takes place in Albert Sq in Manchester on 12th June. Choirs and individual singers from across the North learn the program of 6 songs and come together to perform them and to raise money for WaterAid. WaterAid tell us that for £15 they can provide fresh water and sanitation for a person- FOR LIFE! Therefore each participant donates £15 and changes a life by having a lovely time singing. We …

The New Year of Singing Begins

A very Happy New Year to you all! The choirs all start up again this week and I am looking forward to seeing all the old familiar faces again and to welcoming new members too. There have been a number enquiries from those wishes to start singing with us and maybe we will get some surprise additions too. This is a great time to start (or restart!) as we will be having some new material and a fresh burst of energy and resolve for the new year. People sometimes ask ‘do you …

The Marple group Email list

This is a message for the Marple group. During ‘upgrading’ to Windows 10 the Marple group email list vanished from my computer. Not sent anywhere -just disappeared, as in deleted!!. I have tried to recreate the list and have sent a test message. I am definitely better at singing than sorting these things out so,if you should be on that list( which is only used to send messages to your group and always as ‘blind carbon copy’) and have not received a message about this from me dated 20.12.15 then …

Marple Christmas Cracker Cancelled

Unfortunately due to adverse weather conditions the council has cancelled the Marple Christmas Cracker. It is such a shame that Secret Singers won’t therefore get to sing but we have been invited to sing at next year’s event. My sympathy goes to the organisers who must be very disappointed after all their hard preparation work.

It also means that the Carers’ Chorus singers will be able to join into Secret Singers events and when they have an engagement Secret Singers will be able to join …

The Sacred Nine

One of the songs we are currently learning contains the lines ‘sacred nine teach us the mode, sweetest notes to be explored’ and I thought that this was some kind of biblical reference- but no. The sacred nine refers to the Muses of Greek mythology as below. The Nine Muses The Nine Muses were Greek goddesses who ruled over the arts and sciences and offered inspiration in those subjects. They were the daughters of Zeus, lord of all gods, and Mnemosyne, who represented memory. Memory was important for the Muses …
