The Clitheroe Class is to Reopen!

It is fantastic news that we now have enough people on the list to reopen the Clitheroe Class!. I said that I would reopen when we had at least 12 on the list and on the basis that everyone pays for a block of 6 classes up front- although I am only charging for 5 (£25). Well we are there! We will have some old faces (I mean people who have been before!) and some new ones and we start on Thursday 23rd Feb for six weeks. Same time and …

Sally Naden Show

On Thursday 2nd Feb one of our Nelson Secret Singers, Trish Thompson, was a guest on The Sally Naden Show on behalf of Secret Singers. She was supported by Tommy, Bonnie, Noreen and I in the audience and Sally also came out in among us with the radio mic to get comment from us too. Trish was terrific and overcame her nerves really well- although her face was a picture when the first thing Sally asked her was to sing! We sang as a bunch in fact which was fine. …

‘Getting Together’,singing group for people with dementia and their carers

I have become involved with doing singing for people with Dementia and have been funded by Crossroads Care to run weekly singing groups, with my friend Janet Swan, from  MondayFeb 6th to April 2nd. We will be using the new conference facilities at Moorhouse’s Brewery on Accrington Rd in Burnley. Singing is great for everyone but for people with dementia it has been found to be particularly beneficial in opening up the voice and bringing back memories. The group is designed to be a social afternoon for carers and cared …

Olwyn on Radio Lancsahire

Here I am with the lovely Ted Robbins after talking and singing with him this morning (Tuesday 17th Jan 2012) on his programme on Radio Lancashire. It was a great opportunity to spread the word about Secret Singers and how wonderful singing with others makes you feel and we even had Ted and the team singing together.

Success at the Christmas Tree Festival

On Saturday 17th Dec 20 Secret Singers gathered at United Reformed Church Clitheroe and sang our Christmas set. It was really good fun and we repeated the exercise after lunch with a slightly different team. Our flash mob style entry was interesting and certainly took the gathering by surprise! I was so proud of everyone. The church’s representatives were very grateful for our input and the enthusiasm and evident enjoyment was brilliant to see and hear. Well done!! (team photo to follow)

It will be a lovely event with over 30 decorated trees in the church and lots of yummy home-made food available for our lunch break. Singers should wear anything in Christmas colours- red green gold(yellow).

Children in Need Event at the Atrium Cafe Clitheroe

It was fantastic, 26 secret singers turned up for our spot in the Ribble Valley Jazz and Blues club’s 12 hour music marathon! Our participation set certainly was something different from the other performers and it was great to see the audience joining in with us. I was so proud of the enthusiasm and responsiveness of the group and I heard some lovely comments about us afterwards. I understand that the whole event raised £1260 for children in Need, which is marvellous. The father of Therese (of the Read group) took some …
