Classic Car show, Towneley Park June 30th 2013

A total of 32 Secret Singers came and sang at the Classic Car Show at Towneley Park in Burnley on Sunday. We sang our program at 1pm with a choir of about 20 and again at 3.30pm with 32. There was time in between to visit the beer tent, get some lunch at the cafe, get doughnuts and give the kids a go on the bouncy castle and even look around the amazing collection of cars! Above is a photo of some of the Todmorden gals taking their ease with …

Sing for Water

Here is a picture taken just after we had Sung for Water, in a massed choir of about 500, in Manchester’s Albert Square. (We did miss a few folk off the picture who had to get straight off unfortunately). Secret Singers were a goodly proportion of the whole choir , I was very proud! We had good weather again for the event, even if it was a bit chilly when the sun went behind a cloud. It was a wonderful experience, once again and I feel sure we will want …

Sing for Water workshop last Saturday

Saturday 27th april saw a full house of Sing for Water participants at Band on the Wall in Manchester. The programme was a repeat of the first workshop a couple of weeks ago at Bridge5 Mill as it was an overflow workshop to cope with unprecedented demand for places. We had a super day and learnt 5 of the 7 songs which will be performed in St Ann’s Sq on 2nd June. The atmosphere was fantastic and the sound was wonderful! The event will be astounding with over 400 singers from choirs …

Lovely article in the Marple Review

Recently Avril Marsh of the Marple Review visit our Marple group and wrote this lovely article about us. she gave her permission for me to reproduce it here. Singing is a universal response to life’s ups and downs, a gift that multiplies when shared.  While it may transcend barriers of culture, creed and language, there are nonetheless some who feel left out when the music begins. People who believe they can’t sing maintain a stoic silence rather than risk revealing a tuneless squawk. Only in the privacy of car or …

Sing for Water North 2013

It has come to that time of year for us to think about Sing For Water North and  Secret Singers will definitely participate again this year. I am even going to conduct one of the songs on the day, which will be a thrill! It is a truly marvellous event of massed choirs from across the North raising money for Water Aid and saving hundreds of lives. Below is the missive from Jules Gibb (one of the main organisers) and includes all the details. Please let me know ASAP if you want …

Secret Singers at Dent Folk Carolling Weekend

The first weekend of December and it was bright and frosty, a perfect setting for singing carols! 11 Secret Singers went to the weekend and all four Secret Singer groups were represented. Together we sang Masters in the Hall at the Saturday night entertainment,  which was a bit risky as we had not sung together as a group before, except at the teabreak- however the work we had done in the separate classes paid off and you can see the result via this youtube link www.youtube.com/watch?v=hU9YoISR9hM A big thank you to David …

Happy Birthday!

This week is Secret Singers’ 2nd birthday. It is wonderful that from such a small beginning we now have 4 super groups, 2 daytime and 2 evening and 116 active members! To celebrate this event there will be cake at all of this week’s sessions– even those who haven’t been going for the 2 years. So make sure you are there for this party week. I can hardly believe that it is 2 years yet, at the same time, my previous life seems so far away. I have met such great people …
