Join us for World Singing Day

On 15th October is World Singing Day and we are holding two singing get togethers in Read and Marple.  Join us to sing songs from a variety of styles & cultures. As always at Secret Singers all songs will be taught by ear, so you do not need to be able to read music. Find out more about World Singing Day and the Song of the Year here. We will bring and share refreshments and hot drinks in the break and you are welcome to share your best cup cakes …

We’re back!

This week I’ve been busily preparing songs for the autumn and winter term, including Everything is possible by the wonderful Lea Morris and Röstvalsen by Kajsa Norrby, a waltz without words in the style of a Swedish folk song. welcome (back) to East Lancs and Marple Secret Singers

Welcome (back) to East Lancs and Marple Secret Singers!   A warm welcome from me, Annelie, your new facilitator. For those of you who have not met me before, here’s a little information about me:   I’m 34 years old and live in Sale, South Manchester, with my husband and my cat. My Retirement but the Choirs Will Continue!

This week in class I announced my intention to retire from running choirs. I have had some wonderful times with the Secret Singers Choirs since I started them in 2010 and I have wonderful memories of things we have done and songs we have sung together but I am ready for some new adventures now and looking forward to that. It will be very sad not to see any of you anymore though. The loss of people is really the hardest. I will miss you. HOWEVER, THE CHOIR WILL CONTINUE! ( …

Happy New Year and New Term

Dear Singing Friends, HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope we will have a good season of joyful singing ahead of us! It is my intention to restart classes on Tuesday 11th Jan 2022 for Marple and East Lancs and Wednesday 12th for Todmorden, unless any new restrictions come into force before then. I know that the infection rate has gone up massively but people who have had their 3 jabs are well protected from serious and life threatening disease, so they say, and also if we all look after each other …

our CO2 experiment in infection control

We have done very well since our return to indoor, in person singing in that I have only heard of one couple being infected with Covid 19 and that was contracted over our half term break (so not at choir). It makes me feel that our vaccinations, testing, large airy rooms and other precautions are working well keeping us safe whilst we are having such fun singing. I wanted more evidence that I am organising something which is as safe as it can be and after reading about another leader …

The First Half Term and a Christmas Performance

Well, we are developing a lovely group of East Lancs Secret Singers at our new venue, Nazareth Unitarian Church in Padiham and the sound we are making is just wonderful! We are having plenty of laughs too as we start to gel together as one group. It has been great to welcome some of the singers from Janet Swan’s old  group and, happily, some new members too. I am very sad though to lose some members who don’t find the new arrangements convenient. We miss them but I always hope …

The New Term

It has all been very worrying trying to guess how many singers would return and whether it would even be allowed ! In the end I decided to make a big change and establish the new East Lancs. Secret Singers group, an amalgamation of the previous Read and Nelson groups and the East Lancs. Carers Chorus. I have found a huge room, big enough to safely take all of the existing members of the previous groups even if they all came back at once, though I imagine that some people …
