Autumn Programme

I have been doing my final preparations for this term and I can’t wait to share these songs with you! Here is the list- (members will be able to access the sound files in the members area shortly.) We may not have time (or in some classes, the necessary voices) to tackle all of these- I will see what you like and can achieve. Of course, the more consistent the groups are the more we will get done. Also, later in the term I will add a bit of Christmas flavour in there too. …

New Venue for Nelson Secret Singers

In an exciting new development our Nelson group is to have its new home at Christ Church on Carr Rd in Nelson (BB9 7EN) from September. Both the ACE Centre and Secret Singers have enjoyed increasing popularity in the last couple of years and therefore they cannot always allocate us the size of room I now require due to other functions. It is really great that such a wonderful facility for Nelson is being so well used. I applaud their success. However, Secret Singers deserve a consistent home and so I have …

We had an AWESOME Big Sing!!

On Saturday 21st July all 4 Secret Singers groups got together for a lovely social event at Burwain Sailing club. We had beautiful weather and sang looking out across the lake, it was lovely!. Everyone brought something to eat to share (far too much!) and Richard and Mark manned the bar. We sang for almost 2 hours and everyone joined in- even with the songs they didn’t know. I always say that we are there to express not to impress and expression was there in spades!! You could really hearing …

Ribble Valley Sings

I have been invited to conduct a series of day long workshops in 3 different village halls around the Ribble Valley, culminating in a showcase concert. It should be a lovely event for the autumn. People are invited to attend one, two or all three days. There will be songs in common across the workshops and some specific to each day/village hall. We will then make a concert from these songs and invited guest performers. It is primarily for the people of the Ribble Valley but others will be able to attend …

Sing For Water North 2012- Amazing!!

What a wonderful day we had on Sunday 11th June! The rehearsals in the fabulous Manchester town hall with so many singers from choirs across the North of England and Wales. Jules Gibb and Janet Russell got us all up to scratch and the sun shone. I counted 37 Secret Singers who took part although the photos don’t show quite everybody. It was lovely to contact between the classes again and all 4 were represented. For me the highlight was singing ‘Love Flows Like a River’ to the Bride and …

Jubilee ‘Tour’

The Secret Singers Jubilee ‘Tour’ went ahead yesterday 4th June and was a resounding success. I counted up that 46 secret singers took part over the 2 performances, which is wonderful. The sound did get a bit lost at Read due to the wind direction but at Chatburn we took that into consideration and it made quite a difference. we are due to receive a fee of £50 from the Read jubilee Celebration Committee and I will gift this to water aid on behalf of all secret singers. Stephen Finn …

Update on singing for people with Dementia

Just to update you, the singing group for people with dementia and their carers, funded through Crossroads Care was thrown out of Moorhouses Brewery for being too disruptive to everyday business and a new venue had to be found. With the help of local press coverage many offers of premises were made and the group now has a new base at Rosegrove Unity Working Men’s Club. The really good bit is that it is a much larger room and we are able to accommodate even more people in the group and be …
